Welcome to part two of our meet the founder mini-series, this time with the spotlight on Patrick Williamson, the other half of the founding team at ENA Solution! Problem solving is at the core of ENA Solution’s DNA, and for Patrick, well, that feels right at home.
An electrical engineer both by education and experience, Patrick went right to work early in his career solving unique technical challenges. Like, really unique. He was charged with bringing decommissioned locomotives back to life by upgrading their electronics. And these were half-century-old systems, so user manuals weren’t available to make the job easier. Patrick pored over GE’s expired patents to interpret the inventors’ intentions, then worked his magic! Experiences like this prepared him for a future in entrepreneurship, which similarly comes with no user manual.
After he got off that train, he connected with his eventual co-founder while working on heavy machinery telemetry equipment. The effort was both technically challenging and extremely relevant to his future work at ENA Solution, where durability and reliability are paramount. Following a successful start to his career tackling big, hairy problems (like bringing those decommissioned train engines back to life!), he was excited to partner with his mentor to address a challenge they felt had been ignored: how we control the conditions of our working environments.
While innovation was abundant when it came to smart home technology, and large enterprise businesses had fancy (and expensive) automation systems, small- and medium-size businesses weren’t benefitting. This served as inspiration for ENA Solution, and gave rise to an obsession with delivering smarter environmental control to commercial and industrial spaces. This is where you’ll find Patrick spending most of his time, though when he’s outside of the office you might find him in the wilderness taking part in hare scrambles, which are hours long, off road motorbike challenges. Like we told you, Patrick loves a good challenge!
